After dark 18 months ago, the Harbour Theatre in Boothbay opened its doors again. The audience in the theater is small, but they are enthusiastic about the opening of the theater and its updates and COVID measures.

The first movie screened is the animation "Adams Family 2", which is a colorful Halloween celebration to celebrate with that beloved, weird, bizarre, but lovely family. Insert your fingers...and sing..."They are creepy, they are weird, mysterious and weird, they are all together, the Adams family." The family will meet on Wednesday, October 7th. Return for two performances at 7pm on Thursday, October 8

The opening night on Friday, October 1st attracted nine spectators. Helen Meserve, a member of the board of directors of the Harbour Theatre, said that the mechanical part-sound and projection-worked very well. The number of participants on Saturday doubled. Participant Kellie Bigos said: "This is very exciting, and the format seems to be very effective."

This format allows theater audiences to buy tickets and discounts at the same counter-a brand new, expanded snack area.

Jim and Kate Borsig of Southport are satisfied with the safety precautions. Jim said: "We will come here for anything-animation, documentary... We are members of the theater and think everyone should be."

Ed and Hopie Escabar are equally excited when they return to the Harbour Theatre. "Everything is fine," Hopi said. "We have been looking forward to this," Ed interjected. "We are lucky to have a theater."

Betsy and Alan Hills agreed that the interior of the theater looked beautiful. The hall and auditorium were painted dark blue, and the curtains in the auditorium were gone; fireproof black sound-absorbing tiles and panels were installed on the walls to replace the curtains and improve the sound quality.

Emily Dow and her son Dominic said that they are also very happy to be in the theater again. Excitement is definitely the word at night!

On Sunday night, October 3rd, 15 people were attracted. Helen Messef, a member of the board of directors of the theater, said that this number will rise steadily as more people come to tell family and friends about their experience there. "Everyone has a smiling face, especially the children."

The theater is closed every Monday and Tuesday. The new movie is released on Friday, and also on Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday. Released in October: Daniel Craig plays 007 in the 25th James Bond film "No Time to Die" in the series. The opening night is Friday, October 8th, and the movie will be screened at 7pm

Helen Meserve said the board of directors decided to open up on a large scale. "We booked three big movies because we wanted to say'we are open' in a dramatic way. We will launch more independent films and art films."

The theater’s classic movies opened in November with the Hitchcock Festival-"Vertigo", "Rear Window", "Northwest by Northwest" and "Stranger on the Train". Also coming soon are "Spencer" and "Truffle Hunter".

The theater is located at 185 Townsend Avenue, Boothbay Harbor, in the Meadow Shopping Center.

Between screenings, the theater is being thoroughly cleaned. The restrooms are cleaned before and during the performance. A hand sanitizer station will be set up in the lobby.

COVID precautions: viewers 12 years and older must show proof that they have been fully vaccinated (CDC card or copy, or photo on mobile device). Please be prepared to comply when purchasing tickets. Children under the age of 12 can watch with their fully vaccinated parents as long as they wear masks throughout the film. The auditorium has a maximum of 80 people in order to comply with social distancing requirements.

The individual membership fee is US$40 per year, and the family membership fee is US$75 (up to five). Join each ticket to enjoy a $2 discount, and only members can watch movies and events for free. Fill out the membership form online, or download a copy and mail it to the theater.
